I fell into carpentry by accident, and stayed because I loved the challenge and the opportunity to learn.
I started my career on a small, unbridged island on the Maine coast. Lockdown meant worker availability was restricted, so I spent two years working beside an expert carpenter, who graciously took the opportunity to teach me as much as he could along the way. We reshingled the schoolhouse, reroofed the lighthouse keepers house, rebuilt a pier, and built a new house all the while consistently challenged by the remote location. I learned many lessons during this time, but the hard working, 'we can do it' attitude was my greatest takeaway.
After leaving the island, I moved to Madison, Wisconsin and got a job with TDS Custom Construction, a small design build firm specializing in complex remodels of older homes and in high performance new construction. Over the last few years I've worked on a wide variety of projects: extensive remodels and large additions on older homes, deck and porch construction, historic window restoration, and helping to build a new efficient house, complete with double stud walls and thorough airsealing. I have grown into a detail oriented, creative problem solver who can be relied on to complete difficult and intricate work with quality and care. A consummate team player, I readily assist other carpenters on the crew, engage with design staff and clients in a professional manner, and work to keep the shop organized and operating efficiently. I am continually growing my skills and knowledge by seeking out more challenging projects or ways to streamline routine work. I have taken on a specialization in finish carpentery and cabinet installation, but remain engaged in the entire build process from demolition to punchlist. Throughout this time I have pursued self-edification at home, reading and researching about the trade I've come to love. Below you will find images of four tasks I have completed while working for TDS, a small snapshot of a large and varied collection.
